Acrylic elastomeric roof coatings denote a seamless, fully adhered elastomeric membrane applied in liquid form on the roof. These coatings are notably thicker than typical house paint, ranging from 5 to 10 times the thickness of exterior house paint, which is generally 3 mils (0.003 inches).

In the context of elastomeric coatings for commercial roofing, the thickness can be even greater, spanning from 15 to 30 mils. To provide a comparison, EPDM measures around 45 mils, while HypalonR and PVC are at 60 mils. The distinctive feature of these coatings is that the membrane is generated directly on the roof from a liquid state.
